Here is a testimony to God’s deliverance that includes both praise and instruction. Like so many of the psalms in Book 1, it bears witness to God’s intervention in times of danger and distress. The psalm is a stimulus to Christians to share their experiences and what they have learnt with fellow believers for their own encouragement and comfort. Along with Psalm 56 it belongs to the time when David, in seeking to escape from Saul, took refuge in the Philistine
